Publix Super Markets, the Florida-based grocery chain that opened its first store location in the Triangle last fall, will be taking over a vacant grocery store in Cary and starting construction for a third location near Heritage Wake Forest.

In Cary, Publix will be taking over the remaining terms of a Lowes Foods’ grocery store lease at Millpond Village on Kildaire Farm Road. Lowes had closed last fall.

In Wake Forest, Publix will anchor the new Shoppes at Heritage Village shopping center at the corner of Forestville and Rogers roads. Publix expects to open its new 49,000-square-foot store at Heritage in 2016. The developer is Columbia Properties of Marietta, Georgia.
