The magazine praises the Duke Chapel, but also says “the scenery isn’t just about the buildings … The Duke Forest spans more than 700 acres and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, designed by celebrated American landscape designer Ellen Biddle Shipman, is home to a world-class array of irises, palms, roses, and more.”
At UNC, beauty is found not only in features like the Morehead–Patterson Bell Tower, but the grounds.
“In addition to having a designated botanical garden, UNC opted to spread the beauty by planting plants and flowers all over campus,” writes the magazine.
Other campuses included on the list are Ivy Leaguers Princeton, Dartmouth and Yale in the Northeast; Indiana University and University of Notre Dame in the Midwest; the University of the South and the University of Virginia in the South; and University of Colorado and Stanford University in the West.
